Three hours might seem like a long time to orientate you into the ofGildedCages service compared to most personal training services but we operate from a different paradigm. We want you to be successful and it is very difficult to do that unless we understand where you are at and what has come before.
What have you tried? What do you like? What motivates you? What’s your level of commitment? We try and tease out all those factors. Along with the more concrete. What can you bench press? Can you squat? Can you do a press-up? What’s your BMR? How many calories a day do you consume?

Before we start we need you to have a body scan. There are several places you can do that. I can make a recommendation. I pay $45. It takes 10 minutes and is painless.
The body scan is our starting point. There is not much to be gained from starting the benchmarking process until we have the results. The scan will tell us your weight and height. Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Extracellular water (ECW) ratio.
We get an analysis of your total fat and lean body mass and an analysis of where it is. You will for example get how much fat is in your right arm, left arm, trunk and legs. We also get circumference measurements for neck, chest, abdomen, hip, arms and legs.
The scan also tracks changes for you, so it is very easy to see what is happening. The scales lie; the scan doesn’t.

I provide you with a questionnaire and when I have your answers we get together and discuss your feedback. The questionnaire will tease out a whole range of issues from your reasons for wanting to train, your level of motivation, and your expectations.
We gather information on previous exercise history, health conditions, injuries, the exercise you like, where you want to train etc.
The information gathered drives what your program looks like. It also gives me the opportunity to see if your expectations are realistic and if they are not how we manage that.

The next step is to see what you can do. We can do it at your gym if you have one, City Fitness or at my home gym. The aim is to get information on your current level of fitness and strength as well as seeing what type of exercise you like and don’t like.
-
Putting together all the information gleaned I put together a program of exercises for you and we do Day (1).

Not a cobbled together program of a few of our most commonly used
